All-new 2018 VW Polo to debut on June 16 in Berlin

And this is what it will look like

VW has officially announced that the all-new 2018 Polo supermini will be unveiled on June 16 during an event in Berlin ahead of the model's Frankfurt Motor Show debut.

No other information has been revealed, but we do know some things about the sixth-generation Polo. First of all, it will use the new MQB A0 platform inaugurated by the latest SEAT Ibiza. That means it will get a similar mix of turbocharged gasoline and diesel engines, including the 1.5 TSI Evo range-topping unit with 150 metric horsepower, the 1.0 TSI three-cylinder and the 1.6 TDI in several states of tune.

Styling-wise, the new Polo is not a mystery at all. We've already seen it wearing very light camouflage or almost none at all and weren't that impressed. Its looks are as predictable as the Atacama desert not getting any rain this year. However, the new platform makes it wider than before, a thing that's noticeable in the most recent spy shots we've shown you. As a result, the new Polo should handle better and offer a roomier interior as well.

Speaking of the cabin, the Polo is expected to offer more upscale materials and soundproofing than the Ibiza, and may even get a three-door version — unlike its Spanish sibling. That body style would be perfect for the GTI version, which is expected to pack a 2.0-liter TSI with 200 hp.
