Fans can breathe easy, the DB11 has all it takes to carry the company forward
Once in a while, every automaker launches a new model bound to shape the future of the company for many years to come. This holds ever truer for low-volume, independent carmakers like Aston Martin — an all-new model has the power to make or break the brand.
Such a model is the new DB11, the successor to the DB9 as Aston Martin’s core vehicle. We’ve been reading a lot about it, but now the time has come to see what the British grand tourer is like to drive. One of the first media outlets to review it is Autocar and judging from their conclusions Aston Martin has nailed it with the new DB11.
Motivated by a 5.2-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine that delivers 600 hp and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque, the new coupé goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and hits a top speed of 322 km/h (200 mph). But despite its supercar performance, it’s still a GT: it offers a comfortable ride and it’s the sort of car you can cover hundreds of miles in without feeling tired and in a refined and luxurious cabin.
The DB11 is not without shortcomings, though. The graphics of the instrument panel look outdated, and the cabin is not as well insulated from road and wind noise as rival models. However, you’ll forget all about that because the car feels very agile for a car that weighs 1,770 kg (3,902 lbs).
