Five years into production, the actual BMW M5 says “farewell”, not without spawning a final hardcore version
BMW just announced production end for the high-performance business sedan M5 with an exclusive, more powerful version (how else?).
Enter BMW M5 Competition Edition, one of “the most powerful automobiles in the model history of the BMW brand.” The low-pitched 4.4-liter V8 engine boasts 600 hp (40 more over the standard M5) and 516 lb-ft (700 Newton meters) mated to an M dual clutch transmission with Drivelogic, enough power to send the super-sedan to 62 mph (from a standstill) in just 3.9 seconds.
Along the power infusion, the M5 Competition Edition features – no surprise here – the Competition Package; its ground clearance is lowered by 10 millimeters, the springs are stiffened, and the Active M differential is tweaked to ensure “further optimized traction.” In addition, the steering provides a more precise response. Oh, and the Dynamic Stability Control is more tolerable.
Visually, the M5 Competition Edition comes in two body colors (Carbon Black and Mineral White), sits on 20" forged and polished double-spoked M wheels, and features M Performance parts in carbon.
In the cabin, you get Merino Black leather, carbon fiber on the dash and an inscription indicating the car’s chassis number. BMW offers only 200 units of the M5 Competition Edition, making this M5 the most exclusive F10 5-Series.
