Honda Civic Type R Prototype Flaunts Its Spoilers in Paris

Calling it a ‘prototype’ means the production car will look exactly like this

Honda’s new global Civic debuted in Paris not only in run-of-the-mill trim but also as a Type R.

The car showcased at this year’s edition of the motor show is not a concept, but a prototype as Honda itself calls it.

This means virtually nothing will change (from a visual standpoint, at least) as it migrates towards production which is planned to commence next year.

Powering the Civic Type R Prototype is the same turbocharged 2.0-liter VTEC unit that powers the current incarnation of the model. It’s not yet clear, though, if the power output will surpass that of the 306 hp current model – it could, as the chassis can take more (we drove the current Type R and found it ridiculously grippy) and it needs to stand up against rivals with ever-more power.

Styling-wise, the Prototype builds upon the already aggressive styling of the regular Civic. It seems sharper, lower and racier thanks to bolt-on fender flares, more butch bumpers and side skirts.
