Koenigsegg Pampers Our Eyes With Delivery-Ready Regeras

First two 1500-hp Regera hypercars showcased in Geneva before getting delivered to customers

Two years after it was introduced to the public — at the same Geneva Motor Show — the Regera is ready for delivery. The first two Regeras have been showcased — along a one-off Agera RS Gryphon — at Koenigsegg's stand.

In case time has washed away your memory regarding the Regera, let us provide some numbers for you. A twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V8, three electric motors, all-wheel-drive, over 1,500 hp, and more than 1,475 lb-ft (2,000 Nm) of torque. The electric motors alone deliver 670 hp — the same as a Ferrari 488 GTB.

The Regera will launch to 186 mph (300 km/h) in 10 seconds and will pass the 249 mph (400 km/h) mark in just 20 seconds. Quoting from the press release: "We would love to tell you it is the world’s first car with a removable roof capable of reaching 400 km/h, but that was actually the Koenigsegg CCXR. In 2008. Such is the history of innovation at Koenigsegg."

Thanks to the Direct Drive transmission system (developed in-house by Koenigsegg), Regera doesn't accelerate in the same way all other supercars do. The Direct Drive is way more efficient than a regular gearbox is. For example, it goes from 93 mph (150 km/h) to 155 mph (250 km/h) "in just over 3 seconds." Oh, and the engine speed matches the wheel speed — so if you hear that V8 growl at 8,250 rpm, then you must be traveling at 240+ miles per hour.

In all honesty, the Regera is such a strong statement the $1.9 million price seems like a fair deal. Only 80 units will be made.
