The two-door S-Class takes a trip to the dark side
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupé is one of the best-looking production cars on sale today, but that doesn't mean its looks can't be improved.
The automaker certainly seems to believe that, judging from the latest special edition model based on the two-door S-Class. Called the "Night Edition," the limited-run S-Class Coupé combines a stealth exterior with a more luxurious interior spiced with improved equipment.
Debuting at the Detroit Auto Show next month, the S-Class Coupé Night Edition stands out immediately thanks to the exterior treatment. Highlights include the Selenite Grey Magno matte paint (optional), radiator grille with a single louver in high-gloss black, 20-inch black-painted AMG light-alloy wheels, as well as black mirror caps and side sill panels. The special edition model comes as standard with an AMG body kit, "Night Edition" badge on the front wings, and illuminated door sills with Mercedes-Benz lettering.
Inside, the S-Class Coupé Night Edition offers a leather-wrapped AMG sports steering wheel with engraved "Night Edition" plaque and leather upholstery (customers can choose between standard leather, nappa leather, and AMG nappa leather). The cabin is also kitted with high-gloss black poplar wood trim.
Going on sale in Europe in April 2017 and the United States in August 2017, the S-Class Coupé Night Edition will be available to order from January 2017 with three engine choices: the 367 PS 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 in the S 400 4MATIC Coupé, and the 455 PS 4.7-liter twin-turbo V8 in the S 500 Coupé and S 500 4MATIC Coupé.
