The notion of a racing car for the road is thrown around from time to time by this and that manufacturer, but few if any were as true to the meaning as Mercedes’ CLK GTR. It is, for all intents and purposes, an actual racing car you can drive on the road in that it is the car used for racing with minimal changes to make it road legal.
It even packs the race car’s 6.9-liter V12 engine, a unit to which again only minor mods were applied to for road use, and it sounds like pure automotive audio pornography. It’s one of the naughtiest sounding engines ever put in a road going car, and one that is deliciously musical in its character.
And there’s depth to that sound. It not only varies based on rpm, but also how much throttle you’re applying, and combining these two factors results in a driving experience that will never be boring or the same.
