Second-Gen Subaru BRZ May Not Happen, Says Report

It’s not been an unsuccessful car for the brand, but they’re not really sure if they want to make another

Sure, there may be 10 Toyota GT86 models for every BRZ that Subaru made, yet it was still deemed a successful model for the company. Now however, a new report suggests Subaru is unsure if it wants to follow it up with a sequel model.

Australia’s Drive quotes local Subaru managing director, Nick Senior, who when asked about the second-gen BRZ replied “It's brought new customers to the brand, there's no doubt about it, younger customers. And where it has been beneficial is younger customers that are sportier orientated, have been probably not ready or probably couldn't afford a WRX, but we're seeing a few BRZ people – as they get a bit older and their income rises they move to a WRX.”

Regarding its future, Senior concluded that “I haven't seen it on the product planning charts, but there's talk of it. So I'm not sure.”

So basically, the model which was introduced in 2012, was deemed beneficial as it added new (younger) buyers, but that alone doesn’t seem to be enough to ensure its future.
