Volvo’s Polestar Will Make Electrified Performance Cars

But we don’t yet know when or any other details

Volvo is looking at the possibility of maximizing the use of its performance sub-brand, Polestar, and it appears ready to electrify that relationship. Company officials have announced their clear intention give electrification “an extremely important role in the future.”

Australia’s Motoring quotes Volvo Cars North America president and CEO, Lex Kerssemakers, as saying “we’re still in the stage of realising how we can leverage Polestar as a marketing tool and what type of cycle plan will launch with it. we know it will be about performance cars but they should reflect what we stand for from a drivetrain perspective.”

This is where electrification will come in, and regarding it Kerssmakers said “excites me because you can offer different levels of performance in different ways. Electrification gives you a lot of ‘yeah’, you know? The linear performance. . .”

He did not say when they are planning to launch electrified Polestar-branded performance cars, but he did reestablish the fact that Polestar will remain under Volvo’s wing and will remain based in Gothenburg, Sweden. We were also assured that “there is a lot to come from Polestar.”
