Ford Is Bringing Back the Bronco

UAW official confirms in interview that there will be a new generation of the Bronco

Back in the day, the Ford Bronco was a three door 4×4 very capable in off-road. Yesterday, a United Automobile Workers official confirmed that Ford will bring bag the name Bronco.

The new model will be produced alongside the Ranger truck at the Michigan Assembly plant, according to Bill Johnson, plant chairman for UAW Local 900 which represents workers at the Wayne plant, cited by Detroit Free Press.

This confirmation comes in the context of the American presidential campaign. Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, criticized Ford's decision to move production of the Ford Focus to its Mexico plant. Apparently, he knew only half the story, as Ford's plans to replace the production of the Focus with bigger and more expensive models only now come to light.

After the economic crisis hit the US, Ford started a process to transform the Michigan plant in order to build smaller cars. Ford began making the Focus compact car at the plant in 2011 after a $550-million overhaul and also makes three hybrid and electric cars at the 2.9-million-square-foot-plant across 400 acres.

Since 2011 though, sales of smaller cars such as the Focus have dropped, as American buy more and more bigger cars, after the economic recovery. Therefore, Ford is now forced to shift production of the Focus out of the US, in order to make room for more profitable products.
