New DS5 Ditches Citroen Badge with Facelift

Citroen has given the DS5 a mid cycle makeover and also launched DS as a separate sub-brand

Citroen has given the DS5 a mid cycle makeover, but looking around the car without the proper context (being familiar with the DS5) you’d not know it’s one of the dual chevron automaker’s offerings. That’s because in updating the DS5, Citroen has also launched DS as a separate sub-brand and therefore its logo is nowhere to be found on the new flagship DS’s exterior or interior, or that of the revamped DS4.

The DS range still had one Citroen branded model, the facelifted DS3, as that car was launched before the standalone brand was announced. It will ditch it too, though, via a second refresh that was just revealed.

Back to the DS5, it appears as if they haven’t done all that much to it on the outside. If you already know the car, its shape is hard to mistake for anything else. It’s still just as striking to look at as ever – probably the biggest difference is given by the new look of the LED headlights.

Cosmetic changes aside, there is some substance to this update as well with two new gas turbo engines offered: both displace 1.6 liters, with outputs of 163 or 210 PS. The lesser powered of the two is exclusively available with an automatic gearbox.

The range of diesel engines is left untouched, and it kicks off with the 1.6-liter 120 PS BlueHDI and ends with the now familiar Hybrid 4×4 200, a diesel-electric hybrid that also happens to be the only all-wheel drive model in the range.
