Birthday boy: BMW 7 Series Edition 40 Jahre pays tribute to Munich’s flagship

The 7 Series took its baby steps four decades ago

The BMW 7 Series turns 40 this year and like it's customary in the automotive world, BMW created a special edition to honor its flagship model.

Dubbed the Edition 40 Jahre, the anniversary 7er will get only 200 units, each designed with the close input of customers who will take part in the building process at BMW's Dingolfing plant, where 7 Series production kicked off four decades ago in 1977.

Available from October 2017 in either short- or long-wheelbase iteration, the 7 Series Edition 40 Jahre can be fitted with any engine currently available in BMW powertrain lineup dedicated to the flagship.

Two metallic body colors are available – Frozen Silver and Petrol Mica, both courtesy of BMW Individual – combined with the M Aerodynamics Package and 20-inch light alloy wheels also from BMW Individual.

Tech-wise, the special edition 7 Series will get Munich's top shelf of safety systems and features. Inside the cabin, a full leather treatment (Merino with either Smoke White/Cohiba or Smoke White/Black) will greet passengers in combination with the Smoke White Alcantara roof liner.
