Demolition Derby drag racing is as stupid as it sounds

Combining two good sports doesn’t necessarily result in a better one. Or does it?

What you’re going to see below looks like another attempt to enter The Guinness Book of World Records for yet another stupidly exclusive reason.

It’s called Demolition Drag Racing and it involves two popular, yet very different activities: drag racing and demolition derbies.

Drag racing is amazing thanks to the amazing launches and its sheer simplicity (despite the plethora of technologies used to make cars faster). And despite the competition factor, the cars have their own lanes, as crossing paths can result in disaster. That’s what the no-prep racing scene is doing — flirting with disaster.

On the other hand, demolition derby does not show a desire to pursue progress, but rather the idea of fun: beaten up cars fighting on a track without any natural concern to keep their body integrity. Pushing is not only permitted, but encouraged.

So what should this demolition drag racing be about, you probably ask? Well, it uses demolition derby-specced cars on a drag strip. There are two rules: the first one crossing the finish line wins, and the two cars must make physical contact until the finish line.

The only way it could look fun is to be behind the wheel. Otherwise, it looks slow and a bit boring, to be frank. It might have entertainment potential but only with the addition of one (or few) extra elements. Like non-lethal weaponry, such as paintball guns and/or super truck ramps.
