SEAT Reveals And Details Its First Ever Crossover, The Ateca

The vehicle is about the same size as a VW Tiguan, with which it shares running gear and mechanical bits.

SEAT has (tardily) joined the crossover craze with its first ever high-riding model, the Ateca. The vehicle is about the same size as a VW Tiguan, with which it shares running gear and mechanical bits.

Recently revealed at the 2016 Geneva motor show, the Ateca is an unusual entry into its size bracket, as it will be available for order with a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo gasoline engine. With 115 PS on tap it sounds like the bare minimum needed to move a crossover, yet there will be more potent gas or diesel options to pick from (with up to 190 PS).

Size-wise, the Ateca is roughly the same size as its VW counterpart. Its wheelbase is a tad shorter, though, down from 2.68 m to 2.64 m. This is reflected in load-lugging capacity, as the SEAT is 10 liters down on the Tiguan’s 520-liter volume.

The Ateca will arrive in Euro dealerships in September 2016. It’s already been priced for the UK market, where the asking price is £17,990. This means it should stay under the €20,000 mark for continental European markets.
