2018 VW Arteon Flaunts Camouflage-Drowned Body in Spain

The rumored 2017 launch is doable

Just one week ago, Volkswagen was trumpeting a predecessor for the CC, called Arteon and submitted to the internet by a B&W sketch.

In the meantime, Volkswagen got busy testing a pre-production prototype in northern Spain under thick sheets of camouflage. Therefore, design details are scarce to none, as even the vehicle's taillights are covered by the psychedelic layer.

However, the car's silhouette shows a flatter sloping roof than what we were used to on the VW CC, yet Wolfsburg insists passenger room at the back will actually increase.

Some words of the mouth suggest the Arteon will stretch to 4.90 m in length and will accommodate VW's commonly known four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, while a 218-horsepower hybrid drivetrain should complete the powerplant lineup at a later date.

It's also possible to see a reinterpreted version of the force-fed 3.0-liter V6 powerplant found in the China-focused Phideon, which currently churns out 300 hp and 325 lb-ft (440 Nm).

All-wheel drive will also be available as an option via VW's 4Motion setup, and a likely starting price should take the better part of €33,000, but we'll let time tell.
