All-New 2016 Mazda CX-3 Breaks Cover At 2014 LA Auto Show

The 2016 CX-3 is Mazda’s entry into the subcompact crossover segment

Mazda is entering the subcompact crossover market with the all-new 2016 CX-3, a competitor for the Honda HR-V, Nissan Juke and other similar models.

Debuting at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, the 2016 CX-3 is presented as a core model for the brand, which is a sign that Mazda is fully aware of the importance of the subcompact crossover segment. Shorter and lower than Mazda’s best-selling CX-5 crossover, the CX-3 is another embodiment of the brand’s KODO – Soul in Motion design language, highlighted by a long hood, short overhangs, large wheels and a slim cabin. Striking details include the signature grille, sleek headlights (available with LED technology), as well as a dynamic profile with blacked-out B- and C-pillars.

The driver-oriented cockpit features premium textures and soft-touch materials, according to Mazda.

In the United States, the 2016 Mazda CX-3 is powered by a 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine mated to a standard six-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift Sport mode. Rated at 146 hp at 6,000 rpm and 146 lb-ft (198 Nm) of torque at 2,800 rpm, the engine returns an EPA-estimated fuel economy as high as 29 mpg (8.1 l/100 km) city, 35 mpg (6.7 l/100 km) highway and 31 mpg (7.6 l/100 km) combined in front-wheel drive configuration.

With the available i-Activ all-wheel drive system, the 2016 Mazda CX-3 returns an EPA-estimated 27 mpg (8.7 l/100 km) city, 32 mpg (7.3 l/100 km) highway and 29 mpg (8.1 l/100 km) combined.

The 2016 Mazda CX-3 is available with Mazda’s full suite of i-ACTIVSENSE safety features, which include lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, Smart Brake Support, rear camera, Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) and Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC).

All 2016 CX-3s come with the Mazda Connect 7-inch infotainment system, backup camera, push-button starter, power windows, power door locks and remote keyless entry. There are three grades available (Sport, Touring and Grand Touring), with the base model starting from $19,960, excluding $880 destination and handling ($925 in Alaska). The 2016 CX-3 arrives in U.S. dealerships in fall 2015.
