Bentley Bentayga Recalled Due to Sloppy Manufacturing

The last thing you’d expect from a quarter-million-dollar example of wheeled opulence

Bentley issued a recall notice for the recently launched Bentayga, due to concerns regarding passenger safety in the event of a crash.

As no one would have expected – considering the prohibitive $229,100 starting price – the biggest Bentley is subject to a service recall, because “during the assembly process, the [affected] vehicles may not have had the seat mechanism and instrument panel joints properly tightened.”

Besides the consequent squeaks and rattles you can encounter in your most expensive SUV in the world, there are safety issues also, as the loosely mounted seats are at risk of detaching in the event of a powerful collision.

The recall involves an unknown number of vehicles (sloppily) manufactured between March 1 and September 30, 2016, and sold in the US.

We don’t know how many of the 693 Bentaygas marketed in Europe this year have the same problems like the ones sold abroad; all the cars are assembled in the same facility in Crewe, UK.

Bentayga is not only the biggest model in Bentley's lineup but also the first Crewe-based diesel motor car. The "most expensive SUV in the world" title is strengthened by optional, super-expensive extra equipment such as a $160,000 Breitling tourbillon or an £80,000 fly fishing kit.
