McLaren’s Replacement For the 650S Will Have a Drift Mode

Does it surprise you?

Well, it shouldn't be a surprise that a carmaker like McLaren decided to fit fancy-schmancy chassis control technology inside a supercar.

We'll see the next generation Super Series in March at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, but McLaren didn't wait that long to announce a new breed of mechanical wizardry to spice up a onepercenter's Sunday drive.

Touted as the 720S/P14, McLaren's next hot thing will feature the so-called Proactive Chassis Control with three selectable driving modes: Comfort, Sport, and Track.

Helped by additional sensors and accelerometers placed in each wheel hub, the car's brain will read road patch and tire grip data.

The little devil in sheep's clothing is the Variable Drift Control feature providing "even greater involvement for a driver who wants to fully explore the dynamic ability of the second-generation Super Series."

Simply put, sideways fun.

After all, if the Ford Focus RS and the new Mercedes-AMG E63 have a drift mode, why should McLaren watch from the sideline?
