Regulations are the glue that binds a motorsport competition. Sometimes, rules and regulations change, usually for safety reasons and rarely for the sake of the show.
Naturally, when such changes occur, manufacturers need to alter their racing cars' setup prior to competition entry.

For 2017, the governing bodies of Japan's Super GT revised rules mention that all GT500 racers must show a 25% reduction in overall downforce.
As a result, Nissan's Motorsport division aka NISMO took the necessary measures. In other words, some aero parts were stripped off the GT-R Nismo GT500, but engineers managed to lower the racecar's center of gravity and optimize the weight distribution ratio.
Even so, the motorsport-infected Godzilla is still far from its street-legal peers, a sign that the bulk of its splayed body kit is not going anywhere as long racing opportunities are still around.
