It’s been talked about, but we can’t say for sure if VW will greenlight it
Last year, when the 2018 VW Arteon rumor mill was still in full swing, word about a shooting brake version reached the intricate layers of the internet, fueled by a VW official.
The month was December 2016 when Elmar-Marius Licharz, VW’s chief of full-size product lines told Autocar that a shooting brake Arteon is a tempting image (his exact words were "looks quite good" and "could work"), provided his company pins down a business case for the model.
Of course, the days are still early for VW Arteon in its liftback shape, so the decision in favor of a shooting brake variant might need some time to ripe.
As usual, our in-house designer is keeping an ear open for rumors and came up with a hint at a potential swept-back Volkswagen Arteon.
Those familiar with the first-generation Porsche Panamera will spot the similarities between its rear end and what the renderings reveal – which is a refreshing step away from VW's boxy and blunt styling.
