Sounds familiar? That’s because everyone is doing the same thing in the car industry
After a breathtaking appearance in Detroit with the Q Inspiration Concept, Infiniti is also laying out some of the brand’s plans for the future. And yes, (unsurprisingly) electrification is the way to go.
Although the Q Inspiration prototype unveiled at NAIAS 2018 was said to rely on Infiniti’s new VC-Turbo four-cylinder gasoline engine, the company’s plan adheres to a greener purpose. In this regard, Infiniti says it will offer electrified powertrains starting with 2021, with the same year being marked as the debut timeframe for an all-electric car.
According to Nissan CEO Hiroto Saikawa, “customers can expect beautifully designed vehicles like the Q Inspiration concept shown in Detroit, with a whole new level of electrified driving performance as an evolution of Infiniti’s current powertrains.”
In more exact terms, the car manufacturer will focus on offering both pure EVs and e-Power versions, which use a small-capacity gasoline unit that charges a high-output battery pack. Think of a range extender, for example.
At a first glance, the plan does look feasible because the technology is already available under the umbrella which Infiniti shares with Nissan, Renault and recently, Mitsubishi.
