Lexus has updated its GS executive sedan for the 2016 model year
Lexus has unveiled the facelifted 2016 GS sedan at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, alongside the refreshed 2016 LX 570 SUV. For 2016, the mid-size luxury sedan gets a styling update inspired by the GS F, a new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and new luxury appointments.
The most obvious design updates are at the front end: the 2016 GS gets a more prominent spindle grille with a satin chrome trim frame, a redesigned front bumper and standard Bi-LED headlights. At the rear, the taillights and trim have also been revised, with the GS also featuring new standard 18-inch alloy wheels (optional 19-inch rims). The 2016 is available with three new exterior colors: Matador Red Mica, Nightfall Mica and Ultrasonic Blue Mica 2.0.
Interior updates include new trim selections with laser cut wood, Matte Walnut, Linear 3D and Naguri aluminum (for F Sport models). Lexus also offers new interior and leather colors including Chateau, Noble Brown and Rioja Red (for F Sport).
The most important mechanical update is the addition of a new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, the unit delivers 241hp and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque. Powered by this engine, the rear-wheel drive 2016 Lexus GS 200t is projected to return 33 mpg (7.1 l/100 km) on the highway.
Lexus made some changes to the 2016 GS 350 as well, with the 3.5-liter V6 now producing 311 hp and 280 lb-ft (379 Nm) of torque – an increase of 5 hp and 3 lb-ft. Mated to the 8-speed auto, the V6 model is also available with all-wheel drive.
The 2016 GS 450h hybrid remains at the top of the range with a total system power of 338 hp. Paired with a CVT, the V6 hybrid powerplant has EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 29 mpg city, 34 mpg highway and 31 mpg combined.
