2017 Audi A4 Gains Six-Speed Manual Transmission in the U.S.

It’s North America’s only midsize luxury sedan that offers a manual transmission with all-wheel drive

Going on sale this fall in the United States, the all-new 2017 Audi A4 is available with a new manual transmission and quattro all-wheel drive, with the automaker claiming it's the only model in its segment to offer this combination.

Powered by a standard 2.0-liter turbocharged TFSI engine delivering 252 hp and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm), the 2017 Audi A4 with the six-speed manual transmission sprints from 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 5.7 seconds. That's an improvement of 0.7 seconds over the previous generation model.

The new six-speed manual gearbox enhances performance thanks to a series of modifications including a spur-gear stage which replaces the shaft to the front axle differential used on the previous models. The gearbox is also 35.3 lbs (16 kg) lighter than the one it replaces due to the extensive use of magnesium.

Exclusively for the A4 quattro manual, Audi offers an available Sport plus package that includes 18-inch 5-double-spoke-star design wheels, available Daytona Gray exterior paint, S line leather/Alcantara interior with sport seats, stainless steel pedal caps, flat-bottom steering wheel and brushed aluminum trim. Also included is Audi's dynamic steering and sport adaptive suspension, with the latter reducing ride height by 23 mm (0.9 in). Both features were previously reserved only for S4 models.

The 2017 Audi A4 quattro with manual transmission starts from $39,400 (excluding a $950 destination charge).
