Forget about that power upgrade you were hoping for
Toyota has announced the 860 Special Edition for the 2017 86 sports car, which brings styling and equipment upgrades.
You’ll recognize a 2017 Toyota 86 860 Special Edition thanks to the exclusive Supernova Orange paint, as well as the contrasting black elements including the body stripes, rear spoiler, and mirror caps.
The 860 Special Edition also gets 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lights and an aerodynamic underbody panel that is said to add both style and function. Customers who find the Supernova Orange paint too flashy can opt for Halo White. The 860 Special Edition can only be had in one of these two colors, with only 860 units of each color to be built — hence the name.
Interior enhancements include heated front seats in black leather with orange stitching, leather-wrapped steering wheel, shift boot, and parking brake lever, as well as a center console plaque that attests the 860 Special Edition’s exclusivity.
The limited-edition Toyota 86 also gets comfort upgrades including Smart key with push-button start and touch-activated door unlock, dual-zone automatic climate control, and heated side mirrors.
Since the 86 targets driving enthusiasts, the 860 Special Edition features a 4.2-inch multi-information display that features a G-force meter and stop watch. The screen displays information such as horsepower and torque curves, engine coolant and oil temperatures, and mpg.
The 2017 Toyota 86 860 Special Edition will arrive in U.S. dealerships later this month and will be available with either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and Dynamic Rev Management technology.
The 2.0-liter four-cylinder boxer engine remains untouched, delivering 200 hp at 7,000 rpm and 151 lb-ft (205 Nm) of torque at 6,400-6,600 rpm.
Prices are about $3,000 higher than the standard model, with the manual transmission model starting from $29,155 while the automatic version retails from $29,875. Prices exclude a $885 delivery, processing, and handling fee.
