After all, knowing your ancestors is important stuff

Yeah, yeah, you already know all there is about the 2018 Audi RS4 Avant but how much do you about the 2001 RS4 Avant B5?

Courtesy of Auditography, we get the chance to see the new RS4 Avant getting up close and personal with a mint-condition, first-generation RS4 Avant quattro.

Of course, a lot has changed since then, and we're not referring solely to the technology and aggressiveness infusion Ingolstadt brought to its sleeper wagon. The original RS4 Avant was and is also a rare bird, with an estimated of 6,030 units being produced by Audi between 1999 and 2001.

Just like the new RS4 Avant, the first-gen model relied on a V6 – a 2.7-liter bi-turbo powerplant with five valves per cylinder. For the B7 RS4 Avant, however, Audi opted for a 4.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 which also found its way inside the B8 RS4 Avant.

As you probably know by now, the current B9 Audi RS4 Avant made the switch to the V6 thanks to a 2.9-liter bi-turbo unit pumping out 450 hp and 600 Nm of twist.

Should you find this stuff boring – although we highly doubt that – feel free to head below for the video we've been telling you about. Enjoy!
