2018 Chevrolet Tahoe Custom adds capability, cuts pricing

The third-row seats get deleted as well for increased cargo capacity

Chevrolet has decided to give the 2018 Tahoe a value-focused Custom special edition inspired by similar models such as the Silverado Custom.

The Tahoe Custom targets customers who want more utility than amenities, and that's why the big SUV drops the third-row seats for an increased cargo volume behind the second row of 54 cubic feet (up to 112 cubic feet with the second-row seats folded down). Towing capacity also grows to 6,600 lb as standard and can be expanded to 8,600 lb with the max trailering package.

Offered in LS, 2WD, and 4WD configurations, the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe Custom adds 18-inch painted aluminum wheels shod with all-season tires, as well as a chrome-accented grille. And don't think it's completely stripped out of creature comforts. The SUV features a standard 8-inch color touchscreen radio with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto compatibility, 4G LTE connectivity with Wi-Fi hotspot, as well as rear-vision camera, remote start, tire pressure monitor, and teen driver mode.

Prices start at $44,995 (including a $1,295 destination fee), making it about $4,000 cheaper than a 2017 Tahoe LS. Under the hood, the Tahoe Custom features the same 355-hp 5.3-liter V8 engine that is expected to deliver a segment-leading 23 mpg highway mileage based on EPA estimates.

The 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe Custom will arrive in dealerships across the U.S. in September 2017.
