Being blue pays off sometimes

There's no shortage of special edition Ram 1500 trucks and the latest one is very blue.

The name makes that very clear, as it's called Hydro Blue and it's the final special edition Sport model of this calendar year, following the Ignition Orange, Sublime (Green) and Copper Sport limited edition trucks.

Available on Ram 1500 Sport crew cab, short-bed body styles with the 5.7-liter HEMI V8, the Hydro Blue special edition features a striking exterior and more standard equipment.

Special exterior features include a black decal Sport performance hood, body-colored Sport grille with black billet inserts and black R-A-M letter badge, as well as body-colored front fascia, rear bumper, side mirrors and door handles.

The truck's menacing appearance is also supported by the forged 22-inch aluminum wheels on 4×2 models — 4×4 versions get polished 20-inch alloys. Finally, all the badges are black, matching the black bezel projector headlamps and smoked LED taillights.

The 2018 Ram 1500 Hydro Blue features blue accents throughout the cabin as well, including the stitching, dashboard and door trim, embroidery, and Ram logos. The model comes with heated seats with mesh inserts, heated steering wheel, and a black headliner, among other things. Full leather seating and trim is optional.

Other options include gloss black aluminum wheels, black tubular side steps, chrome wheel-to-wheel side steps, Active Level air suspension, ParkSense and the RamBox storage system.

Ram will only build 2,000 units of the 1500 Hydro Blue Sport for the U.S. market, with each truck retailing for $46,060 (plus $1,395 destination). Sales begin this month.

Now we don't know about you, but our favorite Ram pickup remains the 575-hp Rebel TRX.
