Your pocket-rocket buying options just got more varied

After the typical teasing campaign, Mercedes-AMG finally saw fit to let the 2019 A 35 4MATIC roam free on the internet.

And it can surely roam on asphalt as well since Affalterbach fitted it with newly developed 2-liter, four-cylinder, twin-scroll turbo powerplant based on the M 260 unit found inside the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class.

As a result, the A 35 4Matic relies on 225 kW (302 hp, 306 PS) and 400 Nm of torque unlocked from 3,000 rpm. The engine also gets CAMTRONIC variable valve control, high-precision injectors and CONICSHAPE cylinders that reduce internal friction and should, in theory, boost efficiency.

In this configuration the Mercedes-AMG A 35 sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).

Harnessing the said resources is the seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7G dual-clutch transmission that incorporates a RACE-START function as standard and the AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive setup. Mercedes-AMG explains:

“The variable AMG Performance 4MATIC combines the best possible traction with lots of driving fun. The torque distribution is infinitely variable to suit the dynamic handling requirements. The spectrum ranges from front-wheel drive only to a 50:50 percent distribution to the front and rear axles. A multi-disc clutch that is integrated in the rear axle transmission is responsible for the variable torque distribution between the front and rear axles. It is controlled electro-mechanically.”

Through AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drivers can choose one of the five pre-set driving modes: Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and Individual. What’s more, the AMG RIDE CONTROL is also present together with the (optional) Adaptive Damping System that uses three settings to vary stiffness from comfortable to sporty.

To keep the A 35’s feistiness in check, Merc-AMG fitted the hot hatch with four-piston brake calipers up front that bite into 350 mm discs and a one-piston brake calipers at the rear and 330 mm discs.
