And it’s turbocharged

This, ladies and gents, is the entirely new, seventh-generation, 2020 Subaru Legacy, straight from the Chicago Auto Show.

Subaru developed the 2020 Legacy on the Global Platform, hence customers should expect a drop in noise, vibration and harshness, as well as extra stiffness.

Even bigger news are related to the powerplant choice. For the first time in seven years, the Subaru Legacy will use a turbocharged engine.

In more detail, we’re looking at a 2.4-liter boxer mill making 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of twist routed through a Lineartronic CVT. In this setup, the 2020 Legacy hits 60 mph from a standstill in 6.1 seconds and returns 24 mpg city and 32 mpg highway.

Those not excited at the prospect of a turbo engine can pick the 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated unit initially offered in the 2019 Subaru Forester. It makes 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque and can propel the 2020 Legacy from 0 to 60 mph in 8.6 seconds. It, too, comes married with the Lineartronic CVT.

The interior is dominated by a 11.6-inch tablet-style infotainment screen offered as standard on Premium, Sport and Limited models, while the entry-level Legacy makes do with a 7-inch multimedia display.

Thanks to Subaru’s Starlink setup, users get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, SiriusXM radio, Bluetooth, and over-the-air updates. Subaru also mentions that the cabin is now even more spacious, with “increases in front shoulder room, front/rear hip room and rear legroom.”
