Should be launched sometime in 2019

Audi will add a sporty flagship SUV to its high-rider range next year in the form of the Q8 (previewed by a concept), a model with no predecessor.

The automaker recently previewed the model via a design sketch that shows the model’s back end. It’s clearly going to be a model with a flattened out rear roofline, but the shape won’t be as extreme as BMW’s X6 or the Mercedes GLE Coupe.

Instead, you can think of it as an oversized Q2 based on this artist rendering (and spyshots), albeit one with slightly different proportions and a considerably more luxurious appearance. Or, the other way around, like a less opulent Lamborghini Urus.

No word on which venue will be chosen for its reveal, but it could be the 2019 Beijing auto show, but you can check out the first episode the series dedicated to the Q8 below.
