BMW Spices Up 2017 5 Series with M Performance Accessories

Is it a good idea to make the executive sedan look like a boy racer’s car?

BMW has released details about the first M Performance accessories for the all-new 5 Series sedan, ahead of the model's launch in February 2017.

Arriving in BMW's catalog a few weeks later, the retrofit components cover all areas: drive, suspension, aerodynamics, and interior, which means customers can personalize the executive sedan to suit their tastes.

For the 540i and 540i xDrive, the automaker offers the BMW M Performance Power and Sound Kit, which increases the output of the six-cylinder inline gasoline engine by 34 PS to 360 PS and lifts peak torque by 50 Nm to 500 Nm. BMW says the result is increased response, sprint capacity, and pulling power, without affecting fuel economy and emissions.

For diesel-powered 530d and 530d xDrive models, the BMW M Performance Power Kit will arrive in summer 2017 with an extra 27 PS and 30 Nm for a total of 292 PS and 650 Nm. Again, fuel economy and emissions remain the same as on stock models.

What goes fast must stop fast, and that's why customers can also opt for the BMW M Performance sports brake system that offers increased resistance to fading and red-painted calipers.

As for styling upgrades, aerodynamic components are designed to supplement the M sports package (an ex-works option), and the M aerodynamics package (a retrofit option). The range includes add-ons for the front bumper, a rear diffuser, and a rear spoiler in carbon fiber finish.

Customers can further spice up the 5 Series by adding black side sill attachments, carbon fiber mirror caps, black radiator grille, side sill stickers with M Performance inscription, accent strips, and bi-color 20-inch BMW M Performance alloy wheels.

For the cabin, BMW offers a sports steering wheel in Alcantara with red central marking in the 12 o'clock position and silver-grey cross-stitch seam.
