We don’t think Lexus’ spindle grille belongs on the nose of a spacecraft, though
Automakers promoting their products in sci-fi movies are nothing new, with Lexus being the latest company to jump at the opportunity.
Toyota's luxury arm has put its spindle grille on a space ship that will feature in the 2017 science fiction film "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets." In partnership with film studio EuropaCorp's creative team, Lexus has imagined the Skyjet, a single-seat pursuit craft that space cops played by Cara Delevingne and Dane DeHaan will use in the movie.
As you can see in the photo gallery, the Skyjet sports Lexus' signature spindle grille as well as a similar headlight design to that of the 2018 Lexus LC coupe. We'll let you decide if it's good-looking or not but take into account the fact that the movie is set 700 years in the future when tastes will surely differ from now.
Directed by Luc Besson, "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" features an all-star cast including Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke, Rihanna, and Kris Wu. It's the French director's most ambitious film to date and the largest-budget European motion picture ever produced.
The studio has released the first trailer for the movie, which will arrive in theaters worldwide in July 2017. Take a first look at footage from the film and get a glimpse of the Skyjet traveling through the intergalactic citadel of Alpha in the following teaser video.
