Mercedes-AMG GT C Coupé Spied Without Camo During Photo Shoot

The C slots between the S and the R in AMG GT’s alphabet

Two months ago, Mercedes-AMG unveiled the GT C Roadster but decided to keep the GT C coupé hidden for a while.

However, the automaker may have to change plans regarding the GT C coupé's public reveal, as the car has been caught on camera wearing no disguise during a photo shoot just outside AMG's headquarters in Affalterbach.

These are the best shots so far of the GT C coupé, which will be positioned between the GT S and the GT R. Identifying elements include the "Panamericana" front grille, wider rear skirt sourced from the R, tailpipes identical with those on the GT C Roadster, as well as the massive 20-inch wheels.

The example seen here is an "Edition 50" model that pays homage to AMG's 50th birthday coming next year. The matte black paintwork, black-painted alloys and additional logo on the boot lid all hint at the fact that this is a special edition model.

Under the hood, there's the same 4.0-liter V8 biturbo gasoline engine from the AMG GT C Roadster that delivers 557 PS (549 hp) and 690 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque. Mated to the same seven-speed manual dual-clutch transmission found in the open-top model the engine should allow the GT C coupé to deliver similar performance. That is a 0 to 100 km/h sprint of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 315 km/h (196 mph).

Just like the AMG GT C Roadster, the coupé counterpart will get the AMG Ride Control suspension featuring a wider rear track and an electronic differential lock, as well as rear-wheel steering. The Mercedes-AMG GT C should debut at a major auto show in 2017, with the first examples expected to arrive in dealerships before the end of the year.
