Tailoring the Mercedes-Benz G-Class to suit your taste is easier than ever these days
Still, one does not have to leave the Mercedes-Benz dealership anymore to get a G-Class more in tune with his or her personality. The company has set up a new in-house customizing division called “designo manufaktur” and its first project is the G-Class. The company has released a new individualization program that includes custom equipment and appointment features, “traditional craftsmanship and the highest level of quality”, as the automaker puts it.
Located in Graz, Austria, the Manufaktur hand-finishing section applies exterior, interior, topstitching or model badge tweaks, according to the customers’ requests. Exterior modifications include more colors, ranging from non-metallic hues such as fire opal, metallic finish designo mauritius blue metallic, to matt finishes designo allanite grey magno and designo yellow olive magno. A roof painted in obsidian black is also offered.
Customers also can choose from an extended lineup of light-alloy wheels painted in black, as well as add various inlays for the exterior side rub strips. They are available in carbon fiber look for the AMG models and in black for the other variants. Other exterior tweaks include a stainless steel ring for the spare wheel cover, either painted in black or in the body color.
Mercedes-Benz is also offering the popular Night package on the G-Class, which adds black body parts including mirror housings, flared wheel arches, bumpers and roof. The Night package also includes dark-tinted glass from the B-pillar.
Modifications to the interior are even more spectacular, since that’s designo manufaktur’s main area of expertise. New additions include designo leather upholstery in saddle brown, deep-sea blue, silk beige and mocha brown colors, with matching topstitching on the seats, head restraints, dashboard, door handles, armrests and handbrake lever.
Color combinations available for the seats, dashboard, center console and steering wheel include designo leather mocha brown/black with topstitching in dark tobacco, or designo leather deep-sea blue/black with topstitching in deep-sea blue.
Finally, the Mercedes-AMG G 63 and G 65 models are made to look even sportier with the Dinamica Interior package.
