Mercedes Pulls Wraps Off Dirt Track-Ready E-Class All-Terrain

Because the Audi A6 Allroad just couldn’t live another year without a Three Pointed Star rival

For those more adventurous E-Class estate buyers, Mercedes-Benz has now revealed the All-Terrain model that sits higher off the ground and comes with plastic to clad the body in scratch-prone areas.

All E-Class All-Terrain models ride 29 mm higher than the regular estate (sitting 121 mm off the ground) and the standard air suspension can be raised an additional 35 mm for a total ground clearance of 156 mm.

Aside from the obvious extra unpainted plastic, the All-Terrain also features a unique grille that is similar to what Mercedes puts on its SUVs and crossovers. Special rims will also be offered in either 19-inch standard or 20-inch optional flavors.

At launch, the E-Class All-Terrain will only be made available in E220d format, featuring Mercedes’ new 2-liter diesel which we tried out on a sedan variant of the E-Class and liked. It will be joined by six-cylinder power plants later on.

Mercedes will be unveiling the model at the Paris motor show next month. Designated rivals for it are Audi’s A6 Allroad, the new Volvo V90 Cross Country and other raised large estates.
