A 2.0-liter diesel engine will be the only power plant choice
Ford’s lineup of SUVs for Europe has gained a much-needed bigger model, one to sit above the Kuga in the range. Previously, the Kuga and Ecosport were the two only raised models you could buy with a Blue Oval badge, and the only serious off-roader was the Ranger – it still is the only model you could actually take off-road…
This shape Edge is the second generation model, with its predecessor being an US-only offering. The new one follows Ford’s One Ford philosophy and is pretty much the same wherever it’s sold.
However, given that Europeans prefer their SUVs with a frugal and torquey diesel engine, Ford has made the Euro Edge available with a ubiquitous 2.0-liter unit. It’s available in two power flavors: 180 and 210 PS; the latter also comes with a hefty 450 Nm of pull and an automatic six-speed gearbox.
In launching the Escape in Europe, Ford hopes achieve its set goal of selling 139,000 all-wheel drive vehicles; this includes more unique choices like the Mondeo all-wheel drive or the hugely hyped new Focus RS, the only car we know of to come with a “drift mode” straight from the factory…
