Expected to arrive after 2020
Porsche is going to replace the current 911 model with an all-new one in 2019 and after that launches the automaker will add a plug-in hybrid variant to the range. It already has electrified versions of its Cayenne and Panamera models, but it looks like the 911 won't escape it either.
The move towards a plug-in 911 had been speculated on in the past, but now it’s official information coming from Porsche CEO Oliver Blume.
He spoke to Automotive News on the sidelines of the 2017 LA auto show explaining “it will be very important for the 911 to have a plug-in hybrid. it is my opinion that we will go for it.”
Blume culled concerns that battery heft would blunt performance simply stating “the potential is very good with the new generation of batteries." All-electric range for the plug-in 911 is expected to be up to 43 miles / 70 km and it is expected to arrive in or around 2023.
