Should We Prepare for a Non-hybrid NSX Type R?

Honda is considering a more hardcore version of the NSX. So, a track specced Type R? This news couldn’t be better.

Hybrid powertrains are a thing of the very present, even for the performance-oriented vehicles. The new Honda/Acura NSX delivers no less than 500 horsepower out of its hybrid symbiosis, and this is great.

BUT what about a track-ready NSX that drops components from its hybrid system just to be faster around the corners? (Because lightweight, bro.)

As Autocar found out from the Dynamic Development Leader on the NSX project Nick Robinson, there is a Type R version under consideration.

The sans hybrid Type R would still use the rear electric motor (as an alternator, starter motor, and flywheel) while the front axle mounted units would be removed. By doing so, the NSX would drop a few hundred pounds out of its actual 3,800.

This plan is a long way from production, but that doesn't mean a man can't keep his hopes high, right?
