Singapore Startup Vanda Electrics Teases Dendrobium Hypercar Ahead of Geneva Debut

Peculiar name aside, the Dendrobium has the backing of Williams Advanced Engineering

Ladies and gentlemen, this is Singapore's first hypercar, the all-electric Dendrobium concept.

Scheduled to have its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 7, the Dendrobium two-seater is seen here in dim lighting, but that isn't enough to hide the car's dramatic proportions.

The hypercar features automatic roof and doors that open in a synchronized manner, "resembling a fully-opened dendrobium flower, a genus of orchids native to Singapore" — now you know where the name comes from.

We're also told that the Dendrobium features advanced aerodynamics, and the photos provide some clues: the car features a massive rear wing, streamline body, and many surfaces for the airflow to play on. Although there are no photos of the cabin available yet, Vanda Electrics says it features "the finest Scottish leather from Bridge of Weir Leather Company."

The company says the Dendrobium combines striking design with the latest in e-powertrain development. About that, Vanda Electrics has partnered Williams Advanced Engineering for this project. The technology and engineering services division of the Williams Group is a technical partner for the Dendrobium concept and will assist in future project development. No details have been released about the powertrain yet.

The company wants to bring the Dendrobium into limited production by 2018, but I think we should take this with a grain of salt. Expect more details as we get closer to the hypercar's world debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
