This is Skoda’s first fully-electric concept ever
Skoda has chosen Auto Shanghai as the venue for it to unveil Vision E, a sleek coupe-like crossover concept that not only confirms the brand’s electric vehicle ambitions, but also reveals the next evolution of the family face. Looking through the accompanying press blurb, Skoda makes no mention of this model previewing a production model, although the study does use the VW group MEB (modular electrification toolkit).
It is powered by a pair of electric motors with a combined output of 225 kW, has a maximum range of 500 km and its top speed is limited to 180 km/h. Skoda also says it makes Level 3 semi-autonomous driving possible.
Regarding the way it looks, design boss Karl Neuhold says “Over the last few years, with our ŠKODA design language, we have produced several sensational concept cars that point the way to the brand’s future. The new ŠKODA VISION E is now presenting the next step towards a future-oriented design.”
The Czech automaker also made public its ambition to have one in four cars it sells from 2025 be plug-ins or fully-electric. Its first plug-in model will debut in 2019, but we aren’t told what style of vehicle we can expect.
