Someone 3D-printed a Chevy LS3 V8 Engine

Goes together just like the real thing

It's been a while since we made acquaintance with the marvelous technology called 3D-printing. But that doesn’t mean we won’t stop and stare in awe every time we see something coming out of a 3D-printer, especially if it’s an automotive-related item.

In this case, it’s a downscaled Chevrolet LS3 V8 engine. The real thing — which can be found in the Corvette, Camaro, SS, and nearly every new car project in the world — has a 6.2-liter displacement, and packs up to 460 hp (466 PS) and 465 lb-ft (630 Nm).

As for the 3D-printed model showcased in the clip below, we know that it took over 200 hours of total printing time and over two kilograms of a thread. We don’t know how much time did the assembly took, though, but we guess it depends on how accustomed with the mechanical bits the builder is.

If you have a 3D-printer around and you’re up for a challenge, find all the instructions for printing the LS3 here.
