It is basically a race car toned down for road use
Volkswagen is kicking off sales for the new Golf GTI TCR. Here’s everything you need to know about it.
Coming as a road-legal version of the full-blown Golf GTI TCR race car, the meanest Golf GTI there is outputs 213 kW (290 PS, 285 hp) sent through a seven-speed dual clutch DSG gearbox.
It needs just 5.6 seconds to reach the 100 km/h mark from a standstill, while top speed can be set at either 250 km/h or 260 km/h, depending on whether the Autobahn is or isn’t a part of your daily commute route.
On the tech side, the Golf GTI TCR is fitted with the likes of Front Assist, Active Info Display and LED headlights.
Mechanically speaking, VW engineers fitted the very-hot-hatch with a front-axle diff lock, perforated brake disks, sport seats and a steering wheel wrapped in perforated leather at the 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock positions.
18-inch wheels are part of the standard gear list, together with a front splitter, roof spoiler and rear diffuser. Additionally, customers can specify carbon side mirror casings, a roof painted black, and 19-inch alloys.
