Too Bad Mazda Quit Making MPS-branded cars
Mazda recently facelifted the CX-5 crossover, and what better way to celebrate that event than with a rendering of it dressed up as a sporty MPS model. The Hiroshima-based automaker has, as far as we can tell, dropped its MPS-badged sporty models altogether, but looking at this digital interpretation of what one could look like, it reminds us what we could be missing.
X-Tomi is at it again, this time creating what looks like a very tasty and believable CX-5 MPS, complete with badging on the grille. We don’t know which engine out of Mazda’s current roster of petrol or diesel units could be used to power it – the only option would be an uprated version of the 2.5-liter turbo found in the new CX-9.
With that engine under its bonnet, lowered and stiffened springs, sticky tires and bigger brakes, as well as the chassis poise it already has, it would become a seriously enticing motor.
As things stand, though, this rendering is about as close as we’ll come to it, and we can honestly say we’d have liked to see something of the sort materialize.
