A bargain, considering it will allow you to say you have something in common with Steve McQueen
Ford has begun taking orders for the limited-edition 2019 Mustang Bullitt, the modern interpretation of the iconic 1968 model featured in the "Bullitt" movie.
Arriving this summer in Ford dealerships across America, the 2019 Mustang Bullitt starts from $46,595, plus a $900 destination and delivery charge. Surely that's a small price to pay to be able to say you have something in common with The King of Cool, the late Steve McQueen.
As any person who hasn't been living under a rock these past 50 years knows, the famous actor drove a Highland Green 1968 Mustang GT fastback in the action thriller "Bullitt" half a century ago. That car became embedded in popular history as the Mustang Bullitt — and you can now have a modern interpretation of it.
For $46,595, you can have the latest Mustang GT Premium and Performance Package content bundled in an iconic, understated design and sold under the Mustang Bullitt name.
The 5.0-liter V8 engine from the Mustang GT gets pushed to 480 horsepower and 420 lb-ft (569 Nm) of torque thanks to upgrades such as a performance open air intake, Shelby GT350 intake manifold, a bigger 87-mm throttle body, and unique powertrain control module calibrations. The limited-edition model also comes with a fully active black NitroPlate quad-tip exhaust for a more engaging soundtrack.
As a result of all these modifications, the 2019 Mustang Bullitt reaches a top speed of 163 mph (262 km/h) — 8 mph (13 km/h) higher than the Mustang GT.
Customers will only have two color choices for the 2019 Mustang Bullitt: Shadow Black and the classic Dark Highland Green. Design tweaks include subtle chrome accents for the unique black grille and front windows, vintage torque-thrust 19-inch aluminum wheels, and red-painted Brembo brakes.
There aren't any visible outside badges other than the circular faux gas cap Bullitt logo at the rear. As for the interior, the dashboard, door panels, center console and sports seats are trimmed in leather with green stitching, with unique details including the classic cue ball shifter and Bullitt logo on the steering wheel.
