Here’s everything there is to know about the 2019 BMW Z4
BMW has steaming info fresh out of the PR oven about the new Z4
Can we have your attention, please? BMW has just dropped a full list of specs and details on the new Z4 roadster, so here’s what’s what.
At launch, the 2019 BMW Z4 roadster will rely on three powertrain options: two four-cylinder engines and an inline-six unit.
The latter is wrapped up as the BMW Z4 M40i, displaces 3 liters and produces 250 kW (335 hp, 340 PS) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft). 0-100 km/h (62 mph) happens in 4.5 seconds and top speed resides at 250 km/h (155 mph).
Slotting immediately beneath the Z4 M40i is the Z4 sDrive 30i. It uses a four-cylinder, 2-liter engine that makes 190 kW (255 hp, 258 PS) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. Subsequently, the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint takes 5.4 seconds to completion. Top speed is identical to the M40i variant.
Opening the Z4 range is the entry-level sDrive 20i. This, too, offers a four-cylinder, 2-liter engine tuned to deliver 145 kW (194 hp, 197 PS) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of max torque. Less generous engine resources translate into a 6.6 second sprint time from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph), while top speed drops a tad to 240 km/h (149 mph).
Every engine is twinned to an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission as standard. Steering wheel shift paddles are also provided.
Size and underpinnings
The new BMW Z4 stretches to 4,324 mm and is 1,864 mm wide and 1,304 mm tall. The shortened wheelbase compared to its predecessor measures 2,470 mm.
In typical BMW fashion, Munich’s engineers granted it with a 50:50 weight distribution ratio and a low center of gravity. Elsewhere, BMW has chosen its Austrian partner manufacturer Magna Steyr to assemble the new Z4 roadster.
When the Z4 configurator goes online, customers will be able to choose between nine body colors and two soft-top hues, a Sport Line pack, an M Sport pack and a BMW M Performance bundle.
The soft top can be had in Black or Anthracite (optional). It is electrically operated and needs just 10 seconds to open/close at speeds of up to 50 km/h (31 mph).
Helping the BMW Z4 attain its purpose as far as driving dynamics are concerned is a plethora of systems, including the likes of Dynamic Stability Control, ABS, Dynamic Traction Control, Cornering Brake Control, Dynamic Brake Control and Start-Off assistant.
Moreover, the Z4 M40i gets the Adaptive M Sport suspension, M Sport brakes, and an M Sport diff as standard.
Multimedia and technology
The Z4 can be optionally fitted with a head-up display and the likes of Active Cruise Control, Lane Change and Lane Departure Warning, and adaptive LED headlights.
Those who put great emphasis on high quality music can specify the Harman Kardon 12-speaker, 464 watt premium sound system.
