Here’s what to expect from the 2018 BMW X7 SUV

Design-wise, the new X7 will see BMW go the extra mile

Remember the BMW Concept X7 iPerformance shown earlier this autumn in Frankfurt? Good, hold on to that picture because the upcoming BMW X7 will take a lot after the prototype.

Saying so is Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President of BMW Group Design, who explains the concept’s styling cues, so we know what to expect from the road-going X7 SUV.

The new X7 will be a stepping stone for BMW in the luxury department, and since they already have the 7 Series at the top of their portfolio, it’s safe to assume the SUV would replicate the same flair as the large sedan as far as the interior is concerned. Also, it could spawn seating for six and a more modern cabin design, but that's too be seen.

On the visual front – because this has been a polarizing point for the X7 iPerformance – BMW says they’ll focus on fewer but more pronounced exterior lines. And of course, the most discussed design feature was the ginormous kidney grille, an artifice meant to induce the idea of luxury. Will the production X7 use a similar one? Tough to say, but everything’s possible.

Luckily, we won’t have to wait too much since BMW announces we’ll see the car on the streets by next year. In the meantime, you can use the video below to make your own prediction about the X7’s appearance.

On a more utilitarian and also digital note, here’s a BMW pickup truck we’d like to see doing battle against the Mercedes-Benz X-Class.
