Just don’t look for it on the Autobahn cause it’s a tuning exercise
Another year, another vehicle dressed in the German police's gray and blue uniform at the Essen Motor Show.
This time it was Ford Mustang's turn to be the showcase vehicle for the "Tune it! Safe!" initiative for safe tuning. Using parts designed by Wolf Racing and proudly sporting the German police's livery, the world's best-selling sports coupe got turned into a police interceptor designed to catch fast cars that break the speed limit on the Autobahn — where there is such a limit, obviously.
Called "Wolf Wide 5.0," the police Mustang GT rides on unique 20-inch wheels shod with Hankook tires, and has a height-adjustable coilover suspension. Besides the Polizei livery and Hella blue lights and sirens, the styling upgrade includes restyled front and rear aprons, side panels, a rear diffuser, a sports exhaust, and a massive rear wing.
Wolf Racing also modified the 5.0-liter V8 engine, increasing power from 421 hp to 455 hp, enough to cut the 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint to 4.3 seconds. Top speed is 267 km/h (166 mph). The Mustang police car will visit tuning car shows and other events over the next 12 months, raising awareness for the "Tune it! Safe!" campaign.
The project is a part of the Initiative for Safe Tuning, which is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Transport, the Association of Automobile Tuners (VDAT) and other organizations and institutions.
