A piece of history with NASCAR roots
As Ford was getting a beating in NASCAR from Chrysler and their 426 HEMI engine, Blue Oval's engineering head honchos came up with the 429 engine.
In doing so, they needed a platform to hold the new powerplant, but homologation rules also had to be met in the process. Therefore, the Mustang Boss 429 was born.
Overall, Ford built 1,356 Mustang Boss 429 units between 1969 and 1970, each factory-rated at 375 hp, but some claims suggest the 7.0-liter V8 engine's power output was headed north of 500 hp.
According to its card on Barrett-Jackson, this particular 1969 Mustang Boss 429 is going under the hammer in Palm Beach dressed in Wimbledon White and black interior.
On the mechanical side, it features the original Traction-Lok differential together with a 4-speed transmission and power front disc brakes.
The engine, however, was restored by a "Boss 429 specialist in Scottsdale, AZ". So if you're in the classic car market for a piece of American racing history, head over to the Palm Beach Auction taking place on April 6-8.
