2019 Jeep Cherokee shows toned down face and turbo four-cylinder in Detroit

Also comes with new comfort and tech features

Jeep has officially shown the revised 2019 Cherokee to the public at the 2018 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) and also revealed its plethora of new features.

Its new less polarizing non-bugeye face is the big talking point with the revised Cherokee which is actually complimented by a redesigned hood too. The headlights are full-LED, as are the fog lights.

Jeep also says it added a new handsfree power liftgate (which gives access to a rear compartment that has been improved for cargo volume and storage space), five new rim designs and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof to round things off.

Capability is enhanced through the use of an “all-new Jeep Active Drive I with next-generation rear drive module reduces weight while enhancing fuel efficiency and performance.”

Under he hood there’s turbocharged news in the form of a 2.0-liter 270 hp unit which delivers one horsepower more than the 3.2-liter Pentastar V6 and also has more torque – 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) vs 239 lb-ft (324 Nm). The 180 hp 2.4-liter Tigershark engine remains the entry level choice.

The Cherokee’s interior has been updated too with a reshaped center console and new trim materials, as well as more storage space too. Jeep says the new Cherokee also comes with over 80 safety and security options (both optional and standard) that include advanced active systems like Adaptive Cruise Control Plus and Forward Collision Warning Plus.
