On its full name the 2020 Ford Police Interceptor Utility, the purpose built SUV claims the title of America’s fastest and quickest cop car.

Thanks to all-wheel drive and a 3-liter V6 EcoBoost powerplant, the 2020 Ford Police Interceptor outpaced V8-powered police sedans, says Ford’s press release citing preliminary test data from the Michigan State Police.

“This year, Ford bested all entries, including V8-equipped sedans, with its EcoBoost-powered all-wheel drive version of the all-new 2020 Police Interceptor Utility, posting fastest 0-60 mph and 0-100 mph times, as well as fastest lap and fastest average lap.”

Moreover, the Interceptor also clocked in with the highest top speed of all the vehicles tested – 150 mph – becoming the first-ever SUV to be named quickest and fastest police vehicle overall, yet we would have liked to have some numbers to look at.

What we know, however, is that pursuit-rated cars must complete a 32-lap vehicle dynamics test without suffering mechanical, brake or tire failures.

Even so, the Interceptor's performance credentials would only fade in comparison with some of Europe's police cars, like for example this Lamborghini Huracán Polizia or this formerly mafia-owned Ferrari 458 Spider.
